About Altruism Australia

Altruism Australia is an ATO approved not-for-profit charity and will pay and apply its income and property to or for, and otherwise promote, public charitable objects for the benefit of the community.

ABN: 81 108 585 548

Vision
Positive Vision (moving toward):
An ethically, spiritually and psychologically healthy Australia.

Negative Vision (moving away from):
Social sickness which presents itself as dishonesty, greed, manipulation, exclusivity, divisiveness, opportunism and self-servingness.

Purpose
To be a catalyst for positive social change in the Australian community

Mission / Strategy
Operate a successful annual awards program (The Turtle Awards), highlighting the qualities, values and benefits inherent in humanitarianism and leadership.

Develop and implement initiatives/programs to encourage leadership in young people so they have the skills, values and confidence to contribute to and help grow an ethically, spiritually and psychologically healthy Australia.

Build a model Leadership University that produces leaders of integrity who are strongly equipped to help build an ethically, spiritually and psychologically healthy Australia.

The Turtle Awards
'…Acknowledging leaders who stick their necks out for the common good,'
…are an annual Awards Presentation Evening. Recipients are acknowledged as beacons of the best attributes of leadership. They are *visionary, humanitarian, compassionate, of integrity, courageous, spiritual and demonstrate initiative. And aren't these the values and principles we all reasonably expect from our leaders?
The Turtle Awards help in dismantling the disappointing impression that many have (particularly our young) that leadership is about 'the survival of the fittest, the most aggressive, the wealthiest, the most powerful, the most charismatic / attractive, the most opportunistic, the most cunning'. There are leaders in every walk of life who demonstrate the best attributes of leadership* - these are the leaders we must acknowledge and promote - this is the aim of The Turtle Awards.

Values
Altruism Australia holds to the values of authenticity, ethics, the importance of psychological awareness, respect and spirituality.

Authenticity: We apply this in respect to the highest of personal, professional and community transparency and integrity. An authentic life, person or community is not a place where dishonesty can survive. It's a place where integrity flourishes.

Ethics: The understanding that any group, community or nation, to be truly healthy, must adhere to commonly agreed yet profoundly true principles, such as the sanctity and dignity of life - all life.

Psychology: The acknowledgment that all people have intrinsic needs for their enjoyment of life and that these needs must be acknowledged and understood.

Respect: Simply to acknowledge the rights of all others to their opinions, needs and wants.

Spirituality: The understanding that each person, culture, society, state and nation has the right to their own beliefs, regardless of what they are, and these beliefs should be respected and honoured (with only one proviso - that these beliefs do not advocate, justify or ignore pain, harm and suffering to others). It is accepted in this that spirituality represents a reverence and sense of deep connectedness to something compassionate, peaceful and profoundly just beyond our human logical or intellectual understanding.

Goals
Establish strategic alliance with a local audio visual production house to produce documentaries that are consistent with our charter.

Sponsoring / conducting seminars and lectures from nationally and internationally recognised people and organisations whose activities are consistent with the values, principles and objectives of Altruism Australia.

To become a leadership / humanitarian resource, promoter, grant maker and educator.

Identify and pursue strategic alliances with complementary leadership and humanitarian initiatives, here in Australian and internationally.

Pioneering and presenting leading edge leadership / humanitarian programs and workshops primarily for our young.

To establish a Leadership University which provides the community with leaders of the highest integrity and ability, and inspires government, trusts and business to fund further Leadership Universities through Australia.

Profits
Go to ATO approved charitable organisations or programs that work at street level with abused and homeless youth. And charitable organisations that help prevent later problems (with our young) through leadership, life skills, self-esteem and community / social responsibility and contribution / participation programs.
